A lot of the magic of Moorea is held in its warm, clear waters and coral gardens teeming with tropical fish. We snorkeled every day on our trip. If you love snorkeling, diving, kayaking, paddle boarding, windsurfing, boating and any other water related activity, Sunset Beach is the place to stay. It was our home base for 7 wonder-filled days of adventure and fun. The most beautiful pier on the island is here, and it’s perfect for watching sunsets and sunrises. The pier also plays host to many different tours that can be arranged to pick you up from. This gated, private community is nestled on the beach on the Northwest side of Moorea. It is steps from the hub of the best water activities Moorea has to offer. The famous Stingray World is so close you can see it from shore. Motu Fareone and Motu Tiahura are a short boat ride or kayak away. Motu Tiahura hosts the Coco Beach restaurant where you can dine, relax, and explore. In between those two motus, is where most tour operators stop to let their passengers explore the pristine water and coral. Or, you can just snorkel right off the sparkling shores of Sunset Beach, where there is a bounty of coral and fish. The snorkeling at Sunset Beach is especially calm and shallow.
Tip Nautic and Locaboat are both right on the beach, so it is super convenient to be able to hire boats, stand up paddle boards, kayaks, and snorkel gear. You can even book excursions through them. The little motor boats for rent are easy to operate, and you don’t need a license. Keep in mind they are cash only. If you run out of cash, there is an atm across the street, at the bank at the old Club Med strip mall. There are also souvenir stores, pearl shops, grocery, gas stations and restaurants there. It’s just a quick walk down the road. If your main focus is water activities, hiring a car for your entire stay here is completely optional. Many tour companies and restaurants on Moorea will even arrange to pick you up and drop you off.
Our cozy bungalow in Sunset Beach was exactly what we needed. The modern kitchen and Italian style bathrooms were clean and practical for our family of 4. This place would also be great for up to 6 people or 3 couples (3 queen beds). The raised front deck is where we ate most of our meals while enjoying the gentle breezes and scented flowers surrounding us. I loved having use of a washer and didn’t mind hanging our clothes out to dry in the island air (very few dryers on the island)! Book this residence or others like it here.
